Sky Blue Motel

Motel Web, originally uploaded by jack and cat curio.

Art a day for Wednesday, March 12th. Drove past an old Motel that caught my eye. Had to get out and grab the shot. Sun was awesome and the sky was burning. The sign was calling. So I saw the sign and had to have it.

Of course a big blonde guy with a camera walking around a seedy Motel is bound to stand out. Not the best idea- people get freaked. This lady starts screaming at me from across the way- demanding my name- some leather Biker starts yelling at me that if I'm a lawyer he will hurt me. That was the kindest thing he said to me, and he said a few things. This lady really wants to know my name and wants to know why I'm taking pictures of her Motel. I tell them my name is Himey with a J and that I'm taking pictures for artistic reasons. This confuses them for about five minutes. But five minutes was all that I needed. Got my shot and left. All my body parts intact, my camera, no lost person report needs to be filed. But that's my point with this whole thing- wanting to explore can lead to dangerous times. So if I suddenly disappear- you will know why and perhaps the reason. Stupid you say?...... I heard a report the other night that the average US adult only spends about 4%percent of his or her day outside. I find that sad, but maybe true. It's always worth the shot.

I adore your motel sign shot! For a while I had a desire to take pictures of abandoned/delapitated old barns out here in the boonies of NC. Sort of creepy to be out taking pictures on some desolate backwoods country road by myself. Got it out of my system and now my passion is photographing "naked" (leafless) trees. I can find those in more populated areas. :)

Funny, I used to worry about my oldest son when he was in high school, taking long walks around Mesa, because he's so large (6'7", 200 lbs at the time), everyone was afraid of HIM! Lol...

But yes, always be careful, or take someone with you...
